Description
Surgical technologist's work under the supervision and delegatory authority of the surgeon to facilitate a safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures. Scrubs on assigned cases as either primary or secondary scrub.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensures the operating room environment is safe, that equipment is properly functioning, and the procedure is conducted under conditions that will maximize patient safety.
  2. Maintain asepsis and sterile techniques.
  3. Ensure proper techniques and practices are maintained at all times.

Perioperative Duties
  1. First scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
  2. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipated the needs of the surgeon.
  3. Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is consistently on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
  4. Gathers, checks, and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
  5. Conforms to the surgical attire policy. Dons appropriate OR attire.
  6. Performs initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator.
  7. Participates in surgical site and patient verification during the time out.
  8. Assists in wiping down the rooms each morning before cases.

Intraoperative Duties
  1. Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.
  2. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon during the procedure.
  3. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
  4. Performs additional counts as necessary.
  5. Prepares and passes of specimens as appropriate.
  6. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  7. Assists other members of the team in terminal cleaning of the room.
  8. Assist in prepping the OR for the next patient.
  9. Restock unused supplies at the conclusion of a case.
  10. Surgical technologist in the second scrub role assists the surgeon and or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks include sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors, and manipulating the camera.

Additional Duties
  1. Maintain documentation that is clear, concise, accurate and legible.
  2. Plans and prepared for the day's case load.
  3. Prepare the OR/RR environment for the scheduled activities of the day.
  4. Conform to surgical attire policy.
  5. Aware of patient rights.
  6. Adheres to the policies and procedures of OR/RR.
  7. Document incidents as per policy.
  8. Prepare and maintain adequate linens and supplies.
  9. Maintains professional growth.
  10. Understands emergency procedures and protocols.
  11. Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served i.e neonate, child, adolescent, geriatric.
  12. Work as a member of the Nursing Department to help reinforce a culture of safety in the Nursing Department and organization wide.
  13. Provide effective infection control practices.

Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND
Experience:

Certified as an OR Technician.
WORKER TRAITS:

  1. Ability to perform a variety of duties in the Operating Room.
  2. Capable of attaining set standards of asepsis techniques.
  3. Must be able to work in collaboration with surgeons, anesthetist, and department staff.
  4. Assist in orientation program.
  5. Demonstrate professional involvement at the unit level.
  6. Ensure proper equipment functioning.
  7. Involved in quality improvement activities in the department.
  8. Participates in Grand Round and Journal Club
  9. Facilitate open positive communication.
  10. Actively participates in staff meetings.
  11. Perform other such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the unit or NMMC.
  12. Conform to policies and procedures in regard to attendance, working hours and punctuality.
  13. Application to duties.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
